Cardiff Council has proposed a plan for permanent library. Cardiff & Vale University Health Board put the initiative forward in partnership as a part of improvements programs.

The chapel at the Royal Infirmary will be converted for library space together with ‘reading cafe’ for locals of Adamsdown and Roath. Rory Williams who works at the council on library services says, “I think this type of partnership work as been quite successful in the past in terms of shares and costs” and adds, “public thinks it’s a good idea that organizations be working together like this.”

Two years ago, Roath library closed down for maintenance when the boiler broke down. But, the repair bills were too high and Council decided to closed down permanently despite of public’s disappointment and campaigns to oppose against it.

The new library services will be providing same number of PCs but would consist fewer books than Roath library.
