One Direction cause an ale of a lot of trouble

The Welsh Beer and Cider Festival celebrations have been postponed, after it was announced One Direction will play in Cardiff the same week.

The world-famous boyband will play at the Millennium Stadium on 5 June and an extra date was added on 6 June, following high demand for tickets.

Duncan Ward, last year’s festival organiser who works with the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra), said: “We were discussing a date with the stadium when the announcement was made. From the point of view of the Millennium it is an understandable commercial decision and they will make a lot more money.

“The festival is completely run by volunteers and we couldn’t find another date at the stadium when enough volunteers could take part.”

The 2014 festival, which has been running for 20 years and is organised by Camra, was at the Millennium and featured over 70 independent breweries from across Wales. Mr Ward said the festival hopes to return to the Millenium Stadium in 2016, while CAMRA are looking for an alternative, smaller venue for this year’s event.
