Heartbreak as Cardiff Devils miss out on Elite League title

SHEFFIELD Steelers won the Elite League after cruelly pipping Cardiff Devils in the last game of the 2015-16 season.

Devils defeated the Nottingham Panthers 4-3 and reclaimed the title for a short while.

However, Steelers later stole the glory by regaining their two point lead, beating Fife Flyers 3-1.

More than 3,000 fans at Ice Arena Wales were left saddened as the Devils failed to take home the trophy.

If the Steelers had lost, the Devils would have won the title as they also successfully started the weekend with a 5-2 win over the Storm in Manchester on Saturday evening.

Now the regular season has come to an end, the Devils have the second overall seed in the Elite Hockey Ice League (EHIL) playoffs, meaning they will play the Dundee Stars twice this weekend.

The team will play their home leg this Saturday at 7pm at Ice Arena Wales. They will then travel to Scotland on Sunday to play the second leg in Dundee at 6.30pm.

Both teams are hoping to make it through to the play-off finals weekend which is to take place at the beginning of April.
