New kit for Wales’ first women’s Aussie rules club

A GROUP of women in Cardiff are raising awareness of Wales’ first female Aussie Rules club.

Last week, a fundraising quiz was held at Kokos, on Miskin Street, Cathays, where £420 was raised to buy kits.

The event also provided information about the club to new members.

“It was really great to see the Aussie Rules community come together to help out the ladies’ team,” said team captain Zoe John, 25.

“We put in a lot of work selling tickets and just getting the word out there. Raising £420 in one evening is an end result we can all be proud of.

“There’s nothing quite like playing in your own team kit and playing as one, so the upcoming year will really be a fun and hopefully memorable experience for the ladies.”

The Cardiff Panthers now have enough women to make a team of nine and will play their first competitive game next week.
