Four top tips for introverts before an important job interview

Fear no more! Forget the butterflies and beetroot face, these top tips will have you looking professional in no time.

We all get nervous before an interview, especially job interviews; it’s a very normal situation to find yourself in, so don’t worry. But, to give you some peace of mind, here are four things you can remember that will help to calm yourself down:

  • If you are on time – you’re late!

Always aim to be wherever you need to be 15 minutes early. This gives you time to sit back and look around at your surroundings, or grab a herbal tea. What colour are the walls? What noises can you hear? What is the vibe like? Without noticing, you will soon calm yourself down as you start to get used to the things around you.

  • You’re not the only one!

Everybody gets nervous, even those conducting the interviews admit they get nervous too! You’re not “weird” because you have butterflies in your belly, or your face is going red. It’s strange if you don’t have these feelings, they are what make us normal! Telling yourself this will help to calm you down, trust us!

  • Prepare for Question Time

We hate small-talk! But if you prepare some in advance, it may not feel as awkward. People love answering questions about themselves when they are successful, so prepare three questions for your interviewer. “What was your motivation to become a manager?”, “Do you enjoy your job?”, “What did you do before this role?” This breaks the ice and shows confidence (even if you aren’t feeling all that confident in the first place!)

  • Wind down afterwards

After your interview, which may have proven very stressful (hopefully not after these tips), take some time to wind down. Maybe go for a walk or listen to your favourite album. This will prevent you from overthinking about the outcome of the interview. Take your mind off it. Relax. You did good girl!
