Professional advice
Hannah believes Cinovate is important as it provides insider knowledge on how to succeed. “The independent film industry is where most people cut their teeth to develop their craft and with its coordinators, Media Academy Wales, students will be encouraged to be all rounders,” she says.
They will learn how to market themselves and their films, find people to collaborate with, observe what their peers are doing around the world, and understand every aspect of film, Hannah explains.
She says it also gives the general public a chance to get behind the scenes, see how cinemas are run and shows how they can get involved in their own cinemas, film festivals and find volunteer opportunities.
“There’s a place for everything,” says Hannah. “Cinovate wants to encourage students not to think of themselves as pure filmmakers but creative people who work on lots of different platforms.”
Programmed in:
Speakers are coming from all sectors of the industry such as Tom Fleming, creative industries consultant and expert on arts entrepreneuralism, Rachael Castell from Support your Local Cinema, and Berwyn Rowlands from The Festivals Company.
Hannah says these speakers want to get people back into cinemas, attend more film festivals and become engaged with film in any way they can.
Sponsorship:
Cinovate is coordinated by Skillset Media Academy Wales and its creative media training scheme Skillset Academi+.
It is supported by the Chapter Arts Centre, Film Agency for Wales, The Festivals Company, University of Wales Newport, Birmingham City University as well as the Soundtrack International Film and Music Fesitval, Ffresh and Flatpack Festivals.

Cinovate, a film exhibition training programme, is coming to Cardiff
Cinovate will take place in Cardiff for the first time to teach people in the film exhibition sector how to maximise success in the industry.
This new training programme will take place on 18 and 19 November at the Chapter Arts Centre, providing professional advice on how to succeed in the film industry.
Participants will examine how European leaders in the field are attracting audiences, says Hannah Raybould, the Media Academy Wales manager.
The programme will consist of workshops, group debates, panel sessions and networking events at festivals hosted in Cardiff, Newport and Birmingham.
Hannah believes, “There’s quite a nice feeling of camaraderie and of sharing and networking in the sector. People want to get together with like-minded people and talk about their problems and share their ideas.”
