Christmas tree lighting ceremony results in permanent memorial

Cardiff Bay’s Norwegian Church is remembering those lost in the Norway atrocities with a permanent memorial.
The Church receives an annual gift of a tree from Cardiff’s twin city Hordaland to use in the Christmas tree lighting ceremony, and this year a permanent Tree of Remembrance will be planted as a memorial.
The remembrance service coincides with the unveiling of a photo exhibition of Roald Amundsen’s journey to become the first explorer to reach the South Pole.
Councillor Nigel Howells, Chair of the Norwegian Church Advisory Committee, said, “Every year we celebrate the annual tree lighting with guests from Norway, so it is fitting for the Tree of Remembrance to be accompanied by the exhibition opening; both highlighting the courage of the Norwegian people.”
