Helen, co-founder of Milkwood gallery, said, “Part of my vision for milkwood was to have space that was dedicated to sewing and textiles and bringing back the skills of sewing that seem to have been lost over the last 20 years or so.”
“When people come to beginners classes they can expect to learn a lot-people are quite afraid of sewing –so during the workshop they will get the grips with threading a machine and operating correctly, by the end of the morning learners will be feeling really confident in their new found skills. In the afternoon learners will practice their new found skill on a sewing project, for example making a bag, lined purse or cushion cover.”

Workshops are held at:
Milkwood Gallery, 41 Lochaber Street, Roath
These classes will run on November 24th and 25th, and December 8th and 9th 11am until 4pm. They cost £35 for the day.
Already a dab hand at sewing? The Stitchery also hold classes including: intermediate sewing workshops, make do and mend sewing workshops, the sewing project and the Christmas sewing project.
It will soon be that time of year again, when everyone scratches their head on what to buy their family and friends for Christmas. Helen Gubb, director of ‘the Stitchery’, invites you to stitch your own presents at the sewing workshops she will be holding for the next two weekends.
The ‘sewing workshop for beginners’ hopes to install, in those who attend: the skills, confidence and inspiration to complete their own sewing projects. People will be able to go on to make gifts for their friends and families with Helen’s 20 years of experience in the craft.
Helen Gubb said, “There is a real creative boom in Cardiff right now and I want to entice people to get creating and customising their own wardrobe.”
