Have the Olympic and Paralympic Games inspired you to get involved with sport?
Christian Tonge, 39, IT programmer, Cardiff
“I do a lot of cycling and it definitely renewed my interest and passion because the Brits did so well in it so I suppose I’ll take that away from it.”
Kristy Reece, 22, sales promoter, Cardiff
“It’s not made much of a difference. I think it’s because we’re not specifically in London it’s not been that much of a direct inspiration.”
James McMum, 33, software developer, Cardiff
“No but I already did sports quite a lot anyway. I’m sure if I hadn’t have been into sports before I might have been inspired by the Olympics.”
Lesley Bansal, 47, business owner, Newport
“I can’t say that I have if I’m honest but at the end of our street they’ve got a Communities First and they’re doing an awful lot to get the youngsters involved in sport.”
Vicky Davison, 21, retail cashier, Roath
“Yeah a little bit, I’ve started running since. I’ve got a bit more into it and the Olympics has influenced that. I’ve seen an increase in friends joining gyms too.”
Chris Young, 23, car insurance consultant, Cardiff
“Personally no, because I always been into sport but I have seen a change in others. A lot more people who think ‘I can’t do rugby or football’ are looking at alternate sports instead and that’s definitely thanks to the Olympics.”

Half of adults intended to increase sports participation after the Olympics says Deloitte.
Olympic sponsor, Deloitte, surveyed 2,000 adults and found that 18% planned to take up a new sport while 27% intended to participate more in a sport they already play and 5% a mixture of the two.
The survey was carried out at the end of August, at the height of Olympic fever, but whether these figures are now representative of current, adult sport participation is unclear.
Heather Hancock, Deloitte partner, said, “Clearly, it is one thing to say you will take up a new sport and another to actually do it.”
As a host city, Olympic spirit was widespread in Cardiff but has that affected sport participation since the Games finished?
