Digitalisation: the death of Christmas cards?
Digital equivalents will never beat the tradition of physically exchanging a festive card, according to Erica.
It appears that the bigger threat is from rising postage rates. However, Erica is prepared and has adapted her demonstrations to include cards that fold completely flat to avoid large letter charges.
Christmas card tool box
The basics: Scissors, double sided tape, envelope, rubber stamp and ink pad, pencil crayon or watercolour
Extra touches: glitter, peel off stickers and ribbon (a bit of card bling!)
Gift wrapping top tip
Kraft paper (brown parcel wrap) is really on trend. For an easy and cheap way to personalise it, why not try designing your own potato print? Then use some wide ribbon to add a luxury finishing touch.
A crafter’s testimonial
“Handmade cards give me the opportunity to show people how much they mean to me in a way that a shop bought item could never do. I know that they will appreciate the time and love that went into making them. I come to the demo days as I enjoy meeting fellow crafters, but most of all for inspiration, endless ideas and the range of products for sale. Quite how Erica comes up with so many fabulous new things every month is quite amazing.” Rose (Caerphilly)
Simply Craft is hosting a Christmas demonstration on 7 December at Whitchurch Community Centre.
Everyone is invited to pay three pounds to enjoy a mince pie and experiment with card design, gift ideas, wrapping and decorations.
Erica Evans, 44, owner of Simply Craft says, “In the current economic climate I think more people will be crafting. You know whoever made the gift took time and effort over it.”
The demo is suitable for experienced and amateur crafters and will feature the latest methods, including an intricate die cutting machine.
“Not only do we get to watch the inspiring demos,” gleams Victoria, a Simply Craft regular, “we are also able to buy the products and chat with like-minded people, many of whom have become good friends.”
