Cardiff City 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday
The Bluebirds were able to continue their unbeaten run at home on Friday night against the travelling Owls. Sheffield Wednesday scored and had firm control of the first half, and looked like they would take all 3 points at the Cardiff City Stadium before Lee Tomlin equalised for the hosts with a curling set piece. Cardiff very nearly snatched a win right at the death, but failed to convert the winner. It was a night of frustration for the Cardiff faithful, but a draw was a fair result given the balance of play.
A recent history of the Bluebirds
2011/12 – English League Cup runner-up
2012/13 – Promoted to the Premier League
2013/14 – Relegated to the Championship
2017/18 – Promoted to the Premier League
2018/19 – Relegated to the Championship
As the Bluebirds prepared to face Sheffield Wednesday, we asked Cardiff fans where they think they will end up in the Championship table
With Neil Warnock’s men currently sitting in eleventh in the Championship table, we asked Cardiff City fans where they think they will place come the end of the 2019/20 Championship season.
Fresh off the back of relegation from the Premier League, Cardiff City would have been hoping for a strong start to this season, as they attempt to challenge for playoff places.
However, the strong start never came to be, and the Bluebirds find themselves sitting in mid-table after 12 games.
Questions are starting to be asked about the strength and depth of the squad that manager Warnock has at his disposal. Writing for Wales Online, Bluebirds correspondent Glen Williams says, “While some areas of the squad have flourished and are in a position of strength, others are becoming a glaring problem.”
In order to stand a chance of achieving promotion back to the top flight this season, Cardiff need to finish in the top six places. As we found out, not all in the stands for the Friday night Sheffield fixture were that optimistic.
Where do you think Cardiff City FC will finish this season?
Paul Smith, 42, Teacher, Maesteg
Prediction: 8th
“I think that in terms of the players they have got, and that they have had to make changes, I don’t think they have quite enough to make the playoffs. I’m a glass-half-empty sort of person.”
Tyron Mankmore, 62, Forklift Operator, Cardiff
Prediction: 5th
“We have the quality for the playoffs, but we need a new striker in January without a doubt.”
Janet Brown, 72, Retired, Penarth
(Pictured with grandson)
Prediction: 6th
“Passion goes a long way, and we have always had good fans behind the team. If there is passion in the stands, I think we can finish high.”
Mike Kendall, 35, Warehouse Operative, Bridgend
Prediction: 7th
“I think we will push for the playoffs, but just miss out. We will have to bring in more quality in the January window to make it.”
Rob Carey, 54, Housing Officer, Nelson
Prediction: 6th
“They can make the playoffs, but only if they strengthen in January.”
Kyle Kennedy, 22, Mental Health Nurse, St Clears
Prediction: 2nd
“Come January, we will buy one or two players and run away with it. Warnock will lead us to success.”
Paul Evans, 63, Writer, Tynewydd
Prediction: 8th
“The way they are playing now, I would say a bottom-half finish, but I do think they will improve.”
Autumn Canham, 26, Store Colleague, Barry
Prediction: 10th
“I think we will stay around where we are. All I want us to do is stay above Swansea!”
