Bob’s Birthday Bash, which is part of the Creative Minds Festival, is a celebration of Bob Dylan’s 70th birthday and 50 years of his signing to Columbia Records.
There will be many talks on Bob’s life and music throughout the festival, including talks on politics, how Bob Dylan was influenced by the blues and round table discussions, all culminating in the Musical Finale, a contemporary acoustic musical performance.
The Musical Finale event, which will start at 6.30pm, follows a talk on The Enduring Dylan at 5.30pm. Both events are free, but an e-ticket is required, which you can get by emailing GallimoreSE@cardiff.ac.uk.
The event will be held in the Birt Acres lecture theatre in the Bute Building on the main Cardiff University campus.
The Creative Minds festival will be running events throughout November and December. Their website is http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/creativeminds/
Musicians perform in tribute to Bob Dylan
A night of musical entertainment gets under way on November 18, as two singers pay tribute to Bob Dylan.
Singers Colum Regan and Lawson Dando will perform at Cardiff University’s Bute Building, in a culmination of Bob’s Birthday Bash, an event to celebrate his 70th Birthday. They will play both contemporary and traditional songs, which will link with the previous talks.
The event organiser and Head of European Studies at the University, Professor David Boucher, chose the singers because of their great musical talent.
He said that many aspiring folk singers, including himself, had been influenced by Bob. He said, “Bob Dylan transformed the popular song and without him music would be very different.”
The Musical Finale event is free, but an e-ticket is required.
