WNO Spokesperson continued, “WNO is passionate about the art form and we are always keen to attract new audiences to see our work and dispel the myth that opera is only for the elite audience. We don’t have a dress code, here in Cardiff we have seats from just £5, all of our operas are subtitled in English-and Welsh in Wales-so the story is easy to follow.”

Welsh National Opera, the touring opera company with a staff of 250, will present a new series of contemporary operas over the next five years. All of them will be performed in the UK for the first time.
The “British Firsts” series of operas, which has been made possible by a $2 million gift from members of the Getty family, will begin next summer with the UK staged premiere of Jonathan Harvey’s Wagner Dreams.
A spokesperson for the WNO said, “With well-known titles like Peter pan and Alice in Wonderland coming up in the British Firsts Series we are of course hoping that these will attract more people who would perhaps not normally come to the opera.”
The WNO is based in the Welsh Millennium Centre.
