Diwali, which means ‘festival of lights’, is the most widely celebrated festival in India and it is coming back to Cardiff
In association with Hindu Association Wales and India Centre Cardiff(HCA), Diwali returns to the Museum of Wales on 29 October. The last two years have attracted hundreds of visitors, with almost 500 people visiting in 2010.
Holding the celebration, which involves lighting clay lamps signifying good triumphing over evil, in the museum comes from a long-standing relationship with the HCA. Centre manager Suresh Arava describes it as a knowledge sharing event, but is primarily a religious festival. Suresh says this celebration takes place because Diwali is, “A very grand religious festival in India so those who can’t travel to India can take part.”
The festival is packed with Bollywood and Bhangra music, so if you’re keen to learn more about Indian culture then pop along.
