The band formed in the summer of 2013. The current line-up is:
- Russ Toomey – lead vocals and guitar
- Tom Hall – drums and backing
- Jake Ellis-Scott – guitar and backing
- Mattise Clarke – bassist and backing
Taking influences from a range of sources, from hip hop to Nirvana, the band believe that music should have guts and be from the heart. Toomey says that the band prefer to craft upbeat songs that get you on your feet, as opposed to downbeat tracks.
The name Denim Snakes is a nod to the punk rock bands of the 70s. Toomey says that the inspiration for the moniker came from the iconic cucumber scene in This Is Spinal Tap.
To date, the boys have released three singles: 21; Party Hard; The Guard. All three feature on the album.
The self-titled debut was released on October 11. You can download it from iTunes.
The album launch party is at Gwdihŵ on October 23 from 8pm. Support comes from Them Dead Beats and Birdcage. Tickets are £4 on the door.

High kicks will be the order of the day when rock and rollers Denim Snakes take to the stage to launch their debut album later this month.
The self-titled work from the Barry four-piece is laden with great hooks and driving riffs. Encompassing several different styles, the album is reflective of a band that’s enjoying their music. Front man, Russ Toomey, states, “We’re not trying to be famous. The only goal is to make music that we love playing.”
It’s an album full of verve and you can expect a live show to match. Of their fabled energetic performances, Toomey says, “We really like putting on a show and going wild.” To see for yourself, head to the album launch at Gwdihŵ on October 23.
