The Made in Roath Festival was borne out of a conversation between Helen Gubb and a fellow artist, Helen Clifford. The two Helens were passionate about creating a festival that reflected the level of creativity and talent found in Roath, and began looking for like-minded local people. After an overwhelming response from the local community, the Made in Roath Festival was born. It is the biggest event on Roath’s calendar, and now in its fourth year, is showing no signs of slowing down!
Dominic Gubb studied sculpture in London, and now lives in Wales. Dominic’s work focuses on revealing the hidden magic of unused materials. He is passionate about form and presents commonplace images- with a twist.
Most people visit galleries for catch a glimpse of artwork, but people in Roath are opening up their homes to display local artists’ work as part of the Made in Roath Festival. Open house art galleries encourage community integration as members of the public can talk directly with artists in their own homes about their inspiration and influences.
Festival co-founder and open house host Helen Gubb, and her sculptor husband Dominic will be opening their home at 231 Inverness Place on 20th and 21st October. Helen notes; “The main ethos behind the festival is encouraging people who might not ordinarily be interested in the arts to engage with the arts and creativity in all its forms.”
The festival will be running from 12th-21st October 2012.
