Straddling the physical and emotional, bridging composed utopianism and passionate performance, linking a book and an exhibition: Jo Longhurst’s exhibition Other Spaces is in Ffotogallery Turner House until 26 January 2013.
Other Spaces is about elite gymnasts but sport was not the genesis for the project. This is no kneejerk homage to the Olympics.
Longhurst has been probing concepts of perfection for years, such as in The Refusal; a photography book that studied the search for “perfect” British Whippet racing dogs.
The politically charged set of images “Space-Force Construction” will put you in front of gymnasts from the world’s superpower states – look upon these works ye mighty and descry.
This sculptural photography exhibition of mixed media and physicality is not to be missed.
