When it came to choosing a charity, Kelly knew that she wanted to support Breast Cancer Care after losing friends and family to cancer. “I thought I should be able to do more,” she says. “I chose Breast Cancer Care because they help cancer patients who are dealing with the issues that come with everyday life, from the cost to after-effects of treatments. They also give support to family members and partners, which I found to be amazing.”
If you’re interested in organising your own fundraising event to support Breast Cancer Care, their website is a goldmine of information and ideas. From whitewater rafting, climbing Ben Nevis and walking the Great Wall of China to attending fashion shows, taking part in photography competitions and baking afternoon teas, there are some truly inspiring ways to raise money for the cause.

If you’re looking for a crafty way to donate to charity this month, local cafe-bar Gwdihŵ is hosting an event with a difference – on Monday 29 October, they’re asking people to bring along a bra to customise. For a recommended donation of £2 to Breast Cancer Care, Gwdihŵ will provide all the feathers, glitter and glue needed to create a mammary masterpiece, with prizes being awarded to the most creative.
Cardiff resident Kelly Gillespie was inspired to put together the event after a lingerie shopping trip with friends. “It started off as a bit of a joke – we were saying, ‘We could make better underwear than this!’. But then I thought, actually, this is a really good idea.”
For more information, check out the Gwdihŵ website.
