Alt Cardiff picks the 3 cultural highlights you can’t afford to miss at the Sherman next spring:
1. Lovesong – a play by Abi Morgan. Wed 15 – Sat 18 Feb: A haunting drama that weaves the story of a young couple in their twenties with the same man and woman a lifetime later. From the writer of The Hour and Channel 4’s BAFTA-winning Sex Traffic.

2. Cerys Matthews – Wed 22 Feb: A one-off performance from the Welsh singer-songwriter and BBC 6 Music DJ.
3. Barflies – Tue 20- Sat 24 March: a biting comedy based on the short stories and poems of cult American author Charles Bukowski. A sell-out success in the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe, the play charts all the pain, glory, hopes and horrors of drunkenness. Adapted and directed by Ben Harrison.
Tickets are already on sale for the 2012 programme
Sherman Cymru has begun selling tickets for its programme of events next year, as the theatre gears up to open in February 2012 following major refurbishment.
Tickets have been on sale since Monday 28 November. Theatre director Chris Ricketts hopes that the renovated building will attract new audiences to the arts in Cardiff.
He said, “We think it’s a really strong opening season and hope it will allow people to delve into Sherman Cymru for the first time or to rediscover it anew. We’re very much looking forward to welcoming audiences back into our new home.”
The play Lovesong by Abi Morgan is just one of a number of highlights – the Cardiff-born writer is best known for writing BBC drama The Hour and forthcoming film The Iron Lady.
