Storytelling in Cardiff
There are already a plethora of storytelling events dotted around Cardiff. These include the Cardiff Storytelling Circle at Chapter Arts Centre, which is a monthly meeting of likeminded storytellers aimed at promoting and encouraging storytelling in Cardiff.
There is also the Beyond the Border Wales International Storytelling Festival, which has recently taken place. It is hosted at the scenic St Donat’s castle and delivers performances from storytellers all around the world.
Steve Killick, the brains behind the new storytelling supper event at Kemi’s, has frequented the festival on many occasions since its birth 21 years ago and last year ran a symposium on the wisdom of storytelling.
Mr Killick likes his stories to follow the wisdom traditions of the world. One of his favourites is “The man who had no luck”, a tale about a man who comes across a number of bizarre characters on his way to meeting god. This story will undoubtedly be told at the new storytelling supper event at Kemi’s.

A new monthly storytelling experience will begin this Thursday at Kemi’s in Pontcanna.
The café will play host to this new endeavour, which is being pioneered by local writer Steve Killick and Kemi’s employee Patrick Nevins.
The first of these events will hear stories from Mr Killick and another local teller Francis Maxey. It will be the first in a series of six nights looking to combine storytelling with good food and conversation. It begins at seven o’clock with starters followed by storytelling, then a main course, some reflection time and a final lengthier portion of storytelling.
Mr Killick said a nice buzz is being created around the event, “I spoke with a few storytellers, both nationally and internationally and they were interested in getting involved.”
