The Evolution of the Hollywood Vampire
The Twilight Saga is just the latest in a stream of Hollywood vampire movies that have intrigued, enthralled and terrified for generations, but the vampires of Twilight share little in common with the original creatures of the night. Take a look at the evolution of the Hollywood vampire to find out more:
Nosferatu (1922) Bald with pointy ears, deathly white pallor and pointy fangs, the first vampire on screen was creepy more than crush worthy.
Dracula (1931) The Father of all vampires, Bella Lugosi’s portrayal of the Romanian count is the definitive take on the vampire genre.
Fright Night (1985) Jerry Dandridge looks just like a healthy human being, until he reverts to his be-fanged vampire form.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer The Movie (1992) Vampires are part demon, have no soul and are often the butt of jokes made by a sassy teenage girl who is destined to kill them all.
Interview with the Vampire (1994) Lestat and co. keep the traditional pale skin and blood lust, but as Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are the male leads, the result is rather too good looking, not so scary vampires.
The Twilight Saga (2008- present) The Cullen clan are an astoundingly beautiful group of ‘vegetarian’ , good vampires (who drink animal blood rather than human) whose skin glistens like diamonds in sunlight: very different from Nosferatu.
You’d be forgiven for thinking its Halloween again
An increase in sightings of people sporting Team Edward and Team Jacob t-shirts is predicted for next Thursday. For one night only, Vampire mania is set to hit Cardiff’s cinemas as the new Twilight film is released.
On November the 17, UK cinemas will be holding a special ‘Twiathalon’ screening, to the delight of hoards of die hard Twilight fans (or ‘Twihards’ as they are sometimes known).
The marathon screening will show all three previously released films in the franchise back to back before a special midnight screening of Breaking Dawn Part 1, which is released to general audiences on November 18.
Cineworld Cardiff is anticipating a sell out event. Deputy manager Iwan Williams said, “We’re expecting it to be a very busy, enjoyable event.”
