Vox Pop: Cardiff, city of bards?

Will Cardiff witness the creation of a new literary masterpiece next month?

November is National Novel Writing Month. For thirty days and thirty nights, aspiring novelists from across the world come together to create the books they have always dreamed of writing. Many people in and around Cardiff are rising to the challenge.

The aim is to write 50,000 words by 30 November. Recklessness is key and output is everything. As the website says, “Embrace imperfection and see where it takes you.”

Jay Walker, who coordinates the event in Wales, said, “NaNoWriMo is the most pointless writing competition on the planet. It’s as pointless as jumping from a balloon to fall 24 miles back to earth. That’s why we do it.

“All writers are welcome, from beginners to professionals – after all, Wales is the Land of Bards.”
