Do you think Lady Gaga takes it too far with her outfits?
Katie Jones, 21, Works in Schuh.
“Yes, definitely, I think the things she wears make her look really unattractive. I mean, it’s not even original because Madonna did all this years ago, it’s just boring now. Wearing that meat outfit was a bit hit-and-miss too, she went way over the top, on a scale of 1 to 10, probably a 9”
William Thomas, 19, part-time at HMV
“Yeah, to an extent, I know things like the meat outfit caused a lot of controversy. But, at the same time, she does get a lot of publicity from it and in that respect it’s working out quite well from her. I do think though that her outfits tend to distract people from what’s actually important, the music. It’s more about the image now, and the fashion behind it, which is great for her, but for musical purists, they would say that she’s just detracting from the art”.
Mary Humpfield, 23, Hairdresser
“No, absolutely not, I love Lady Gaga. I know some of her outfits are odd, but it makes her stand out, she’s unique and that’s why I like her. I don’t really think her outfits take anything away from the music because if you listen to her on the computer, you don’t see any of that”.
Mike Boston, 21, Plumber
“Without a doubt, she takes it too far. You can practically see all of her private-parts in some of the things she wears, it’s disgusting. She definitely has a reputation from some of the outfits she wears, it’s like, she’s trying to be something special, some kind of icon, but for me it doesn’t work”.
Aswin Gill, 28, lawyer.
“Erm, no, I think it is joyous, she has her own views and her own ideas and I think there’s nothing wrong with it. I find her music interesting and intriguing and I don’t think her outfits detract anything away from that, but rather, they bring more to it”.
Lucy Hickinson, 22, receptionist.
“Kind of, I don’t mind it when she wears something that’s slightly normal. It’s when she wears something that doesn’t even look comfortable, like the meat outfit, that annoys me, you cant tell me that was an enjoyable experience. I could understand if her vocals were shocking because then you could say that the outfits she wears are meant to compensate for it, but the thing is, she has really good vocals, and she’s an extremely talented songwriter”.
Lady Gaga takes the centre stage again as her controversial meat dress finds its way into a museum exhibition in America.
The National Museum of Women in the Arts, based in Washington DC, are currently hosting an exhibition called “Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power”. It is centred around female artists whom have contributed significantly to the rock and roll industry.
Lady Gaga’s iconic meat dress has been chosen to feature in the exhibition, as an acknowledgment of the eccentric outfits that she wears and the music that she has written.
A Lady Gaga tribute act, Mrs Sharon Chandler, explains that “I like the message that the meat dress sends across; people wear fur all the time, Gaga has just put a different spin on things”.
