What does the Cardiff music scene offer over The X Factor?
Gwil Hughes, 23, Barman, Port Canna
The Cardiff Music scene offers something different every week, quality above anything else and the chance to meet new people as oppose to sitting in your living room with the same people.
James Fuller, 21, Hairdresser, Cardiff
Its nice to get out with other people around, the atmosphere of live music is much better, X factor doesn’t cater for everyone.
Adam Amor, 19, Director, Canton
The music on the X factor is very samey, not to say that it isn’t enjoyable but people like a change so live music is a great alternative.
David Douglas, Charity Worker, Bristol
X Factor is fake, people are fed up of the same format, going out to listen to live music allows someone the ability to judge with their own ears rather than having other people tell you how you should judge music.
Eleri Davis, 37, Mental Health Worker, Pembrokshire
The quality of music is better. I prefer rock, and ska music and that’s more readily available to me in Cardiff. The X Factor doesn’t appeal because it the same old same old, if you’ve seen it once, you don’t need to see it again.
Emma Greasley, 31, Hotelier, Grange Town
I don’t watch the X Factor, I used to but its all become too contrived, it appeal to the masses and not the minority, live music, especially in Cardiff, offers a lot more.
Since hitting our screens eight years ago, The X Factor has been the live music event of most people’s weekends.
However, with news of ratings plummeting by three million from last year, has The X Factor lost sight of its musical roots? The Sun reported last week that Simon Cowell was “furious” with the decline. So why are people turning off?
Here in Cardiff, a huge variety of live music alternatives are on offer. Cardiff’s wide breadth of live venues includes the newly reopened Cardiff Arts Institute and bars like Buffalo Bar and Clwb Ifor Bach. With last weekends Swn Festival also proving a success, we asked the people of Cardiff what they thought the city’s music scene has to offer over the show.
