Behind the Scenes
Q & A with music teacher and band member, Richard Hopkin
What inspired you to create this music video?
I like making videos. It’s a hobby of mine. We made an Eye of the Tiger video for Sport Relief in 2014. It was a bit of a laugh, but we raised over £700. We were really chuffed with that, so we did it again.
Did the shoot run smoothly?
Mr. Bolton’s Santa costume wouldn’t do up past his belly. It had to be put on backwards. He’s a rugby player – He was never expecting to be a lead singer in a boy band!
Why is music so important?
I regularly play in a band at Live Lounge and at weddings. Music is everywhere. It’s in adverts, used as ringtones and played in shops. It’s important children understand how it’s made and how to play. Wherever you come from, it’s important.

Wrong Direction released their second musical hit for Comic Relief last Friday.
The video has already reached nearly 5,000 views on YouTube and has raised over £1,000 for the charity.
Members of staff from St Cyres School in Penarth created a music video inspired by East 17’s number one single, Stay Another Day.
The brand new £48.5 million school is equipped with state of the art technology, including a new drama studio and Apple editing software.
Richard Hopkin, music teacher and band member explains that it was amazing to utilise these resources for a good cause.
In light of the band’s success, Hopkin jokes: “I’m the Gareth Malone of Penarth.”
Despite plans to only release one video, Wrong Direction is already preparing next year’s hit.
