Orchard Cardiff:
- Have created a fruit tree survey of Cardiff, detailing what trees there are and whether they are on public or private land.
- Have a touring fruit tree map on which people can mark their trees.
- Have handed out fruit trees to community groups, held training days on planting, pruning, and cooking, and hold harvest days to collect unwanted fruit and prevent it going to waste.
The Cardiff Story museum is on The Hayes, in the Old Library. Lucie Connors says, “The space is a great opportunity for visitors to find out even more about Cardiff and all the wonderful, diverse groups who inhabit the city and do really exciting stuff.” Going into more detail about the exhibition, she comments, “The Orchard Cardiff exhibition is brilliant. People can plot their own fruit tree on the Fruit Tree Map and get ideas on what they can do with their fruit.”
An exhibition of horticultural history, for fans of fruit
Visitors to the Cardiff Story museum will soon be able to delve into the secrets of the city’s tasty gardens, thanks to Orchard Cardiff’s exhibition.
The museum on The Hayes is hosting a new exhibition in conjunction with Orchard Cardiff, who promote fruit trees in the capital. Lucie Connors, Community Curator at the museum, describes the exhibition as interactive, fun, and engaging. She continues, “People can discover how growing fruit trees has formed an important part of Cardiff’s horticultural history and explore the variety of fruit trees grown in the city.”
The exhibition launches on 3 December with a talk about fruit production in the nineteenth century. There will be mulled apple juice and fruit cake, and it will be free and open to all.
