Three of the best…
Whether you’re after the latest in mixology, top notch entertainment, or just a good honest pint, Cardiff’s got a bar for you.
Lab 22
Best for… Bespoke Cocktails. Lab 22 sets itself apart from Cardiff’s other cocktail bars by offering drinks on a whole other level. While there are plenty of places to go that’ll do you a solid Mojito or Long Island Ice Tea, if you want something more indulgent then Lab 22 really is the only place to go. Drinks are on the costly side, with most coming in at around the £9 mark, but if it’s luxury you’re after, Lab 22 delivers.
Porter’s
Best for… Something different. Unlike most city centre pubs, the entertainment in Porter’s isn’t limited to a dodgy open mic night and a paltry pub quiz. Whilst both make an appearance on the event schedule, there’s far more going on. With a mini golf course, cinema, and their own upcoming Christmas panto, Porter’s really pushes the bar when it comes to in-pub entertainment.
Urban Tap House
Best for… A good cold pint. Boasting over 100 beers and 30 ciders, Urban Tap House is a must visit for any ale fans making a pilgrimage to Cardiff. Run by the Tiny Rebel brewing company, Urban Tap House knows what it does and does it very well. With a continually changing selection of guest ales available, as well as some of Tiny Rebel’s own signature brews, it’s hard to find anywhere better when you’ve got a thirst that only a pint can quench.
Co-owner Paul Rowberry-Iles mans the bar at recently opened Face 11
One of Cardiff’s newest bars is building a cult following with its fresh approach to food.
Face 11 on Cathays Terrace is proving to be a popular destination for students and locals alike, offering an alternative to the countless pubs and takeaways in the area.
“Everything we do is fresh food that we make ourselves”, explains co-owner Paul Rowberry-Iles.
Having opened two months ago, the quirky restaurant-bar offers patrons a mixture of signature beers and ciders, an extensive cocktail menu and of course a menu full of freshly prepared food.
“The pizzas are all fresh, we make the dough ourselves, we make the sauce ourselves, fresh to order”, says Paul, “so we’ve got a bit of a cult following with loads of people around here.”
