Food Stall Profile: The Penylan Pantry
The Penylan Pantry is an environmentally friendly delicatessen that will open in Cardiff on Sunday 8 December. Melissa Boothman and Jolene Makein have both given up their day jobs – a hairdresser and roadie respectively – to set up the deli and embrace a new career of “food, sustainability and education.”
Melissa and Jolene said: “We decided to get involved with the Festive Food Fair this year because we have always supported Green City and what they stand for. We thought it was a good idea to have a stall at this year’s event, as it will be a good opportunity to promote our business to people who may not have heard of us on that side of the river. We also wanted to showcase our suppliers as we feel they fit into the “best, local Welsh produce” and we want everyone to know about how great they are!”
The Green Grotto
Green City Events are also teaming up with a number of local organisations to create a ‘Green Grotto’ at this year’s fair. The social enterprise will be working with the Pedal Cafe, Free Range Learning, Cardiff Transition, Farm Cardiff and Edible Landscaping to bring activities to the fair including a pedal powered Christmas disco, seedpaper making, willow craft, present hunts and a visit from ‘Farmer Christmas.’ The Chapter Choir will also be performing at the event.
Craft-beer, chai tea and an eco-friendly delicatessen are all on the menu for Cardiff shoppers this Christmas, as a local food fair welcomes new stallholders.
Pipes Beer, The Shabbanakle and Penylan Pantry will all have food stalls at this year’s Festive Food Fair, which is organised by Green City Events.
The event, which celebrates its third birthday this year, aims to support independent businesses and promote local and ethically sourced produce.
Shoppers can enjoy the selection of local food stalls at Chapter Arts Centre on Sunday 15 December, from 11am to 6pm.
Rebecca Clark, Green City Director, said: “We can’t wait for the Festive Food Fair this year. It’s always great to see so many people that are passionate about local produce and sourcing food more sustainably.”
