Promoting the environment:
At the new Penylan Pantry, the owners, Melissa and Jolene will recycle up to 90% of their waste. Their customers will be rewarded for bringing back packaging, and they will receive money off certain purchases for reusing jars, bottles and baskets. All the lightening in the shop will be energy saving, the light fittings will be made from recycled materials, and all the paper they use will be made out of 100% recycled materials.
The deli will also have a boutique book corner containing literature that is hard to find and not widely available. The books will be about good food, sustainability and the environment.
A new deli will be opening before Christmas in Penylan that will stock products from local producers, and will aim to promote the environment and a healthy lifestyle.
The Penylan Pantry will be run by friends Melissa and Jolene, who met and became friends through their passion for food.
“Our dream is a neighbourhood hub,” Jolene said. “We wanted a ‘home’ where the service was welcoming and friendly, and where visiting would prove to be a great experience.”
The Penylan Pantry will stock mainly produce from Welsh producers. Melissa and Jolene will only use suppliers that are sustainable, environmentally conscious, or have direct relationships with the growers, farmers and producers.
