alt.cardiff asked the people of Cardiff whether they would rather order in a dinner or make it themselves, here’s what they had to say.
Mohamed Ali, 29, Cardiff, Network Engineer
“Order out, just go out, go to the local pub or something just to get out of the house really. No wouldn’t really order in rather get out of the house, sit down and have a few drinks.”
Adan Esa, 27, Cardiff, Post- Graduate
“Home cooked is better, well I’d actually like to put the effort in so it doesn’t matter even if it doesn’t taste as good as ordering food I appreciate the indoor activity and I don’t know what’s going to happen behind the scenes in a restaurant so I’d rather have indoor food.”
Sarah Welsh, 59, Pontllanfraith Housewife/Invigilator
“Home cooked dinners definitely, I’d rather cook my own food, I mean we eat out occasionally but I prefer my own cooked dinners, better for the family anyway isn’t it?”
Mrs Thomas, 80, Cardiff, Retired
“Cook it myself. To be quite honest I’m not very keen on meals. I’m a very fussy eater, I’m a very small eater so I’d waste money if I bought things in, I don’t like pre-packed things in any case.”
Andrew Swidenbank, 23, Porthcawl, Sales Assistant
“Home cooked, not the same otherwise. There’s something really specific about a cooked dinner fresh and straight from the oven. Though I do like a Toby Carvery, it may be the drive in the van that puts me off.”
Ailsa Chalk, 27, Cardiff, Journalist
“Cook a roast because cooking is therapeutic and calms me down after a stressful day at work.”
Alice Jarvis, 22, Cardiff, Administrator
“Home cook, better quality and probably better for you. The prospect of an ordered in roast is pretty grim.”
So it seems the people of Cardiff need to be convinced, but if you fancy a laid back Sunday try it for yourselves. It’s not just for Sunday either they deliver throughout the week and do more than just a cooked dinner. Check out their menu, or call 029 2049 2000.
To cook or not to cook, that is the question
The Sunday roast is a staple of the British diet and traditionally associated with slaving over a hot stove for hours. Cardiff based caterers Ring-a-Roast are trying to make Sunday’s a little more relaxing by saving you the task of preparing it. Delivering between 70 and 100 hot dinners on a Sunday, it seems ordering in your meat and two veg is becoming pretty popular.
Company Director Jeff Jones says although take-away Sunday roasts are not the norm, they suit young professionals living in small apartments with neither the time nor space to make a roast from scratch.
He says the idea is to, “provide a roast meal like mother used to make,” for those without the time or skills to do it themselves.
