Interview with Deri Reed
Why do you think street food has become such a phenomenon?
I think it has become so popular for multiple reasons. I think the most important reason is that it brings quality food which is actually affordable – you don’t find that very often.
How much would you say that you would pay for an average dish of street food?
I would probably say about seven or eight pounds, which is such a difference from restaurants who might charge 10-15 pound for just one dish.
How did you advertise yourself as a willing trader for The Cardiff Street Food Festival?
The best ways of advertising these days is social media, and I genuinely think it’s the only way to go forward in the 21st Century. It’s how we have become known and it’s how the festival has become known too. If it wasn’t for Twitter and Facebook, everyone would be doomed from the word go.

Local chef aims to make street food popular in Cardiff
Street food is a phenomenon in London but Cardiff has not discovered the delights of home-cooked, affordable food being available on the streets until now, says a Cardiff chef.
Ethical Chef, a catering company which can be found on Cardiff’s Riverside Market every Sunday was established by Deri Reed in 2010 and will be trading in The Cardiff Street Food Festival on 17 November.
At the forefront of vegetarian street food, Ethical Chef is delighted to have been chosen to get involved in the festival and are preparing to surprise Cardiff with the delights of eating quality food on the street.
Deri said, “Our aim is to bring new cuisines to the people and more importantly, to bring the excitement of street food to the City of Cardiff.”
