Alt Cardiff asked Alice Kilgarriff-Vighi,
What inspired you to start the event?
Emma (Kahan – my business partner and friend) and I decided this year to start importing real Lambrusco to the UK. It’s a wine that has had a bad reputation here in the past, but that in its true form is up there as an excellent enjoyable wine to be respected. However, people don’t know it at all so we have been keen to organise a tasting event in order to introduce it to everyone. We have organised in collaboration with the much better established Bottle Shop, owned and run by Dan Williams, who also stock our wines. It’s a great opportunity to build a name for these wines in our local community, whilst holding an event with the local businesses we love best!
What wines are available?
We will be opening our full portfolio (range) and Dan will be opening a selection of his enormous range of wines. People will have the opportunity to try different wines, and buy by the bottle, glass and case!
Will it be a regular thing?
This is a one-off at the moment, but we hope to do more in the new year!
Who else will be there?
As well as The Bottle Shop, there will be food from The Penylan Pantry who will be showcasing the best of their produce, and Emma Gough will be there with her Kid’s Construciton Company, offering adventures in Lego for the little ones, thus not excluding people who have kids from attending.
What do you hope to achieve from the event?
We hope to raise awareness about the little-known wines we champion, and give people an opportunity to ask all sorts of questions about wine, learn about food pairing, and all in an entirely non-snobby environment! There are some excellent wine merchants in Cardiff which give you the opportunity to try new wines and find out how they are produced, what makes them great, we want to promote this!
Cardiff based duo, Alice Kilgarriff-Vighi and Emma Kahan specialise in importing sparkling wines from Northern Italy.
These wines will be available to taste and purchase at the Pop Up Wine Tasting evening, which is to be hosted by three local companies.
Kilgarriff and Kahan will be offering tasters of beautiful wines, handpicked for its taste and traditional and sustainable production methods. The Bottle shop will also be showcasing a fine selection of wines and there will be nibbles and tasty treats too, produced by Pan Y Lan Pantry.
“We hope to raise awareness about the little-known wines we champion. It will give people an opportunity to ask all sorts of questions about wine, learn about food pairing, and all in an entirely non-snobby environment!” Said Alice, whose family live in Emilia, Northern Italy.
