Here are just some of the artists who will be exhibiting work and performing at Artists United charity event this week:
Maria is a self-portraitist, artist and photographer. Her work portrays freedom and nature through using shadows and layers, as shown in her work below. Originally from Peru, she now lives in Cardiff and set up Artists United to help those in the local community.
She says: “I wanted to create an event that entertains guests and transports them to a different atmosphere. I want people to expand their minds.”
Gregory John Ford works in three main areas – sculpture, graal glass and paintings. He made his first graal glass sculpture aged seven and his work is often based on angel forms.
Ben is an electro-acoustic harpist from Cardiff who made his international debut at just seven years old. He has performed worldwide and is a charity ambassador for St John’s Ambulance Cymru and the British Hearts Foundation Cymru.
Originally from Llangadfan in Mid Wales, Lynwen is an established mezzo-soprano singer now living in Cardiff. She is currently playing the character “Cherry” on S4C’s Rownd a Rownd television drama.
Local artists are coming together to host a charity art evening in support of children’s hospice, Ty Hafan.
Artists United – set up by photographer Maria Vasquez – are a group of emerging artists and musicians who want to use their artistic talents to help others.
They will hold an evening of art and music at the Marriot Hotel on 26 November, including exhibitions of paintings, sculpture and photography, and music from classical singers and electro-acoustic harpist, Ben Creighton Griffiths (playing in the video below).
All proceeds will go to Ty Hafan, but Maria Vasquez explains that the event not only aims to help charitable organisations, but to help emerging artists too.
“The main aim of Artists United is to benefit the community and help people,” she says. “But I also want to help artists as it’s hard for us to gain exposure. Artists United – we are uniting for community and art.”
Tickets are available online.
