Although the number of clients may be decreasing, there is a waiting list of poeple who want to work for Community Meals. With very sociable working hours and the chance to build a relationship with the clients, Community Meals organisations in South Wales are not short of staff.
Cardiff Council Community Meals are unable to celebrate National Community Meals Week due to a lack of resources.
Cardiff Community Meals are struggling to find resources and clients due to tightening disability regulations making it harder for elderly and disabled people to qualify for the service. Therefore, they are unable to join the NACC and celebrate National Community Meals Week with their current clients, from 11 November.
The NACC host National Community Meals Week annually. Cardiff’s neighbouring council, Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT), always participate and believe it is important to treat their clients and help reduce stigmatisation. Jackie Spence of RCT said, “our clients would be lost without meals on wheels, they would never get a hot meal! It’s really important to celebrate that.”
