The opening of prisoner-run restaurant The Clink sparks Cardiff citizens to question their opinions on the new eatery in their city.
Set up by a charity that aims to reduce the re-offending rate of prisoners, The Clink Cymru opened its doors last month to the general public. Category D inmates from local prisons run the restaurant and it promises to serve fresh, Welsh produce. However, citizens of Cardiff have mixed views on whether they would enjoy the experience of having prisoners cook their meal in the restaurant.
Chelsea Davies told me, “I would go to support it. It’s great that the prisoners will be qualified in the hospitality industry when they re-enter our community” whereas Bethan Muxworthy thinks the concept is “a bit weird.”
