Discussion community Ignite was born in Seattle in December 2006, and has since spread to hundreds of countries around the world. Speakers are given 20 slides and 5 minutes to talk on a subject of their choice: “Enlighten us,” Ignite Cardiff’s website says: “But make it quick!”
The event is popular with local businesspeople, although speakers are not allowed to use their talks for purely promotional purposes.
Ed Barnett, a collaborator for Ignite Cardiff, says its success is down to the hard work of the team: “We all run individual businesses; juggling clients, staff and heavy workloads. It’s not uncommon for us to get together on a Sunday for a few hours to review feedback, comments and our own thoughts on previous events to ensure that we polish future events to perfection.”
Ignite 20 will take place on November 19 2014. The event is fully sold out, but you can subscribe to Ignite’s website or Facebook page for information about their next evening, which will take place in January 2015.

Ignite 20 looks to be another smash success, as the 500 tickets for Wednesday night’s event were snapped up by eager customers.
Discussion community Ignite Cardiff has become such a popular bi-monthly fixture that tickets for its September event sold out within 45 seconds of release. Tickets are now released in batches online, in an effort to manage the demand for seats.
“There is no other night like Ignite Cardiff.” Said Steve Dimmick, member of the Ignite team. “It’s positive; nobody’s whinging, nobody’s selling, the talks always tend to be upbeat and result in people going home feeling good.”
Ignite 20’s speakers will be lecturing on, among others: ‘Gingerism, the last acceptable prejudice’, ‘Crystals for Green Energy’, and ‘Dick Kerr’s Ladies- thoughts on football and feminism’. Doors open at 6pm.
