With five kittens found abandoned on the side of a South Wales road in November, pet rescue agencies are warning against people taking home pets they are unable to look after.
The festive period is a peak time for pets to be abandoned, with reports in the past of up to three pets abandoned every hour over Christmas. The RSPCA has said that this is due to people being unable to afford to support the cost of caring for a pet.
RSPCA volunteer Oliver Mathers said, “The squeeze is particularly tight over Christmas with people having less money. Unfortunately, pets are most vulnerable at this time of year.”
RSPCA Cardiff can provide some financial support to eligible people who are struggling with their pet’s veterinary costs.
