Cycling on the pavement is illegal and you could be liable to a fixed penalty of £30 if caught, but it could be higher depending on how serious the offence is.
What can I do?
If you are concerned about cycling safety in the Cathays area or have any other concerns you would like to raise about your area of residence, you can attend the next PACT (Partnership and Communities Together) meeting.
PACT meetings give the community the opportunity to talk about issues that concern them about the area they live in. Three issues from each meeting are decided on as priorities and a mix of police, local authority, private sector, volunteer sectors and the community work on solving these problems.
The next PACT meeting is:
Date: 3 December 2012
Time: 7pm
Location: Crwys Rd Methodist Church Hall

The Cathays Neighbourhood Policing Team and Cardiff City Council’s Road Safety Department have launched an initiative to promote greater safety awareness for cyclists, after recent complaints by local residents.
Residents have raised concerns about the number of cyclists riding dangerously and inconsiderately on pavements.
A PACT (Partnership and Communities Together) meeting held on 7 November advised cyclists about the dangers of riding on pavements and reminded them about keeping bikes in good mechanical order, keeping reflectors and lights clean and wearing a good quality helmet and fluorescent clothing in the dark.
PCSO David Lloyd said, “We are trying to promote security and safety for all in the community, so we were really pleased to see how many cyclists turned up to the last PACT meeting.”
