“Yes – I prefer lighter evenings, especially for my children coming home from school.”
Sam Watson, 21, student, Bath

Mary David, 77, retired, Penarth
“I’d like to keep British summer time because I find dark evenings quite depressing.”
Ben Robinson, 35, Technical Team Leader, Leicester
“Yes we should keep it. It’s outdated and just makes life more complicated.”
Lauren Davies, 21, student, Cardiff
“I’d prefer lighter evenings as it makes me feel safer, but I’m not too fussed.”
Twice a year, the clocks change, and twice a year we are either pleased about this or forget and are never on time.
The concept of changing the clocks was originally thought up in 1895 by an astronomer who believed in utilising the morning hours. However, in an age where dark evenings are deemed dangerous and working hours stretch on, is the concept outdated?
Many people believe daylight saving hours, or British summer time, should be kept all year – lighter evenings win out against lighter mornings when people have to walk home at five with a torch. There are lots of arguments for keeping BST, especially from the 10:10 Lighter Later campaign who list benefits on their website. So why do we still change?
