How do you feel about the tidiness of Welsh streets?
Violet Foster, 81, retired from Llandaff
I have lived in Llandaff for years and I think the streets are much worse now then they used to be.
Toby Hakes, 25, Insurance Broker, Pontypridd
I don’t think the rubbish is that bad to be honest. I have friends who live in Cathays and that is awful, seagulls attacking the rubbish everywhere. One of them even found a bag full of needles next to their bin on collection day.
Izzy Matthews, 23, Client Relationship Coordinator from Taunton
I am only here for the day but I think Cardiff is really clean, I have seen loads of rubbish collectors already this morning.
Isabella Palmer, 18, Student from Cardiff
I don’t think that the litter is that bad, there is a lot of chewing gum and cigarette butts around though.
Debra Lewis, 51, Housewife from Bridgend
The roads near my house are disgusting. People just seem to drop their litter instead of taking it to the nearest bin. I think that younger people need to be educated more when it comes to rubbish.
Andy Jones, 48, Finance Manager from Cardiff
I think that the state of Cardiff is fine to be honest. There always seems to be cleaners around.
Keep Wales Tidy have recently released their Cleanliness Index for 2013/14 and it doesn’t look too good for much of Wales. Pembrokeshire came in top with a rating of 73.4 with Bridgend fairing much worse at the bottom with a score of 65.7, making it the town with the dirtiest streets in Wales. The report also noted that only 2.9% of the streets surveyed were litter free.
The Cleanliness Index is calculated by giving each surveyed street a grade of A; litter free, to D; heavily littered, and then tallying up the scores at the end.
In light of this new report we hit the streets of Cardiff and asked people how they felt about the cleanliness of Welsh streets.
