Q&A with Katie Mallam from Cardiff and Vale Health Charity
How many people do you hope to attract?
“We’re hoping that lots of families will register in advance, though runners can turn up on the day. We’ve been advertising it far and wide, and we’re hoping to attract at least 200 runners, all in fancy dress! We’ve planned stalls, entertainment and a Santa’s Grotto, so it will be a lovely morning out in the very beginning of the Christmas holidays.”
Why are you putting on two different runs?
“The two different events are designed to cater for different groups of people. We hope to have lots of under eight year olds running the Fun Run, and we know we’ll have at least one parent running with a buggy! But for everyone aged eight years and over who fancies something a bit more challenging, especially in their fancy dress outfit, we’ve planned a 5km. The events will run one after the other, in order to ensure that the course is wide enough for everyone, and we have prizes for the fastest runners in each age category.”

Not sure where University Hospital Llandough is?
Cardiff and Vale Health Charity (CVHC) will be holding a fun run next month in aid of adults suffering from cystic fibrosis.
The event is due to take place on 20 December at the University Hospital Llandough, and will feature a 1K and a 5K run in or around the hospital grounds. Although not mandatory, participants are encouraged to wear fancy dress.
Speaking about the occasion, CVHC’s Katie Mallam said, “This is the first time an event like this has been held at the hospital, and it has taken a lot of work to ensure that it is well organised. We’re very excited!”
Money raised from the run will go to the Better Life Appeal, an organisation which supports the All Wales Cystic Fibrosis Centre based in the hospital.
