Wales Millennium Centre kicks off its 10th Anniversary celebrations by bringing Tiger Bay’s legendary Casablanca Club back to life, for one night only on Saturday 1 November.
Covering three stages, Night at the Casablanca celebrates the vibrant musical heritage of Tiger Bay and beloved Casablanca Club. The night will be a rich musical fusion of jazz, hip hop and soul acts including Baby Queens and Madassa Soul Band.

With an after show party featuring DJ sets and a Caribbean feast, artistic director Graeme Farrow says, “We promise a party atmosphere and an unforgettable evening.”
From 1965 the Casablanca club hosted artists from all over the world, including Aretha Franklin and Spandau Ballet. It was also pivotal in developing local talent.
Originally a Butetown Bethel Chapel, where Ivor Novello was baptised, the Casablanca club was demolished, much to the dismay of the community and replaced by a car park in 1980.

DJ Keith Murrell explained, “The Casablanca Club was pivotal in the musical history of Cardiff, it had a profound effect on many who remember it.”
