If looking trim in Christmas parties is a goal in the upcoming weeks, then stand-up paddle boarding at Cardiff International White Water is certainly the way to create waves.
Originating in Hawaii, stand-up paddling is a flat-water sport which aims to improve your core stability, whilst strengthening your arms and improving your balance.
CIWW in Cardiff Bay have seen a healthy progression in the sport over two years, and offer half-day courses for beginners on the centre’s outdoor pool.
Enthusiasts are then sufficiently trained to go in groups and take to the River Ely. Paddle boarding beginner Steffan Henry says, “it’s really different to other water-based sports I’ve tried, it’s less hectic. You also end up doing a lot of swimming when you fall off.”
