Birmingham Donkey Sanctuary
Cost: Free
As well as offering donkey-assisted therapy to children with additional needs, Birmingham Donkey Sanctuary is open to the general public and admission is free. The centre runs events with their 18-member donkey team. Your children will love spending time with the donkeys and there’s a gift shop too.

The Birmingham Mystery Treasure Trail
Cost: £6.99 per trail (Suitable for up to 5 people)
This cost-effective family day has you following a loop around Birmingham hunting for clues dotted around the city. It’s a self-guided tour so the time it takes to complete is down to you and the family. As well as entertaining, there’s a chance to win real treasure as all correct answers are entered in a monthly prize drawer of £100.
Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery
Cost: Free
With ever-changing exhibitions throughout the year, there will always be something new for you and your family to see. The museum also runs many family events, from arts and crafts to storytelling. Most of those events are free but may require booking in advance so be sure to check the website.

Ikon Gallery
Cost: Free
Ikon Gallery is extremely family-friendly. They run Family Saturdays on the first Saturday of every month with an activity day open to all ages. These sessions described by the gallery as “hands-on creative activity” are meant to engage, challenge and inspire. The gallery also has parent and toddler sessions, aimed at children aged 0-3. These are opportunities to explore exhibitions together and encourage learning through play.
Lapworth Museum of Geology
Cost: Free
This museum dedicated to rocks, minerals and fossils allows your child to interact with the last 3.5 billion years. After recently undergoing a £2.7 million renovation, this museum is state-of-the-art. As well as the usual exhibits, the museum runs family activities that are also free of charge. These include educational talks, tours and crafting activities.
