To prevent you and your family from getting cabin fever, check out this list our favourite things to do on rainy days
Sunny days are few and far between, but with kids involved you can’t let the British weather get the best of you. Whether you and your family want to stay indoors and have some fun, or if you want to go somewhere else and have an adventure, these activities will surely pass the time until the sun comes out.
Things to do indoors
- Create your own town: let your imagination go wild! Get giant cardboard boxes and draw your ideal town. Include roads, bridges, parks, etc. Then, use the cars that your kid probably has lying around somewhere to have the “townspeople” get around, and have Barbie dolls, action figures or other toys as the townspeople.
- Bake: your partner will most likely hate you for messing up the kitchen, but it’ll be for the benefit of your kid! Plus, if you guys bake her blueberry muffins, then she’ll quickly forget the fact that she’ll have to clean up the mess afterwards.
- Make paper aeroplanes: What kid doesn’t want to be a pilot at least once in their life? Get paper and fold the creases to make it into a plane (here‘s a quick tutorial). Then, have your little one draw out the pilot and crew on the plane. And finally, race your airplanes around the house to see who has the fastest plane in all of the land (or rather, in your postcode).
- Make your own magazine: Create your own magazine: do an interview of a grandparent, draw a picture of the family dog, and write a review of your favourite snack. It’ll be fun to put together a masterpiece to showcase to the family on the next holiday vacation.
Things to do around Wales
- Play golf: Compete in pairs or against one another at the Treetop Adventure Golf at St David’s Shopping Centre in Cardiff. There’s an 18-hole mini-golf course that’ll keep you entertained until the rain stops.
- Ride the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways: enjoy some beautiful scenery while riding the train from Porthmadog to various places around the UK. And the best part? KIDS RIDE FOR FREE! Book a ride at their website.
- Visit St David’s Cathedral: step back in time at this 6th century cathedral. Walk through the beautiful hallways and gaze upon the artistic windows.
- Stroll through Swansea Indoor Market: named the UK’s best indoor market, find everything from artwork to laver bread at their unique stalls. You and your family will spend hours browsing through the various shops.
