People in Splott are campaigning for the city council to install CCTV cameras to catch fly-tippers red handed.
The Keep Splott Tidy Campaign says it wants Cardiff Council to take tougher measures to stop builders and contractors dumping bags of waste outside their homes.
The proposal will be discussed at a meeting on Monday between residents and Cardiff council.
The council says its preferred option would be to introduce fixed penalty notices as a punishment.
But campaigners have already raised £500 to help fund the scheme and think CCTV would be more effective.
Members of Keep Splott Tidy are meeting with Labour councillor Michael Michael, the Cabinet Member for Recycling today to talk about the proposed CCTV plans in Splott.
Lynne Thomas of Keep Splott Tidy says having video evidence of someone caught fly-tipping would act as an effective deterrent for potential offenders,
“We had builders’ debris twice in one week in the same spot in Splott, on Aberdovey street. This is obviously contractors dumping their waste rather than disposing of it responsibly. You had plasterboard, cement and concrete… and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We want CCTV to eradicate the dumping of commercial waste.”
The group now has more than two hundred volunteers since it started in 2016, and has just been nominated for the national Tidy Wales Award which is organised by Keep Wales Tidy.
