Cardiff feminist group criticise city’s new bar

6 December 2016

Local feminist groups are criticising the opening of Cardiff’s Coyote Ugly bar.

They say the movie themed bar has over sexualises the all female staff.

Jay Fox from the Cardiff Feminist Network says “it is a regressive idea. The idea that a bunch of women in underwear jumping around a bar while men watch and pay good money is almost a 1950’s move… the bodies  that are on show are a very small percentage of the bodies that exist in society. They are usually young, white, skinny women and I don’t think we need to keep pushing that in society.”

Coyote Ugly bar in Cardiff will be the first of its franchise in the UK and it will be twice the size of any other bar in Wales when it opens on St. Mary’s Street next week Wednesday.

The bar will try to resemble a real life version of the rom-com movie with the same name.

The management from Cardiff Coyote are yet to make a comment .
