Councillor calls for new park and ride in Cardiff North

6 December 2016

An independent Councillor in Heath says Cardiff North needs a park and ride to help ease congestion.

Councillor Fenella Bowden (pictured) says travel time into the city from Cardiff North has almost doubled recently.

“It’s miserable, it’s constant, it’s difficult for residents to access their own properties.”

She says a new park and ride would help solve the problem.

“You wouldn’t get stuck in traffic, you wouldn’t be scrambling around looking for a parking space.”

Cardiff City Council says it wants to reduce traffic on roads coming into the city by encouraging more people to use public transport.

The nearest alternative is the Cardiff East Park and Ride in Pentwyn.

But Councillor Bowden says the city council’s Local Development Plan doesn’t lay out a parking strategy for Cardiff North.

“The price we’re paying is what we’re seeing on the streets now.”

Cardiff City Council have not yet responded to a request for comment.
