There are calls for more to be done to make sure a new playground is safe for young children.
Coed-y-Gores playground, which opened on 17 February, has already had people littering and drinking alcohol there after dark.
Now, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Pentwyn and Llanedeyrn Joe Carter has called on Cardiff Council to keep a closer eye on the facility, which was opened with the aim of creating a better environment for local families.
“I’ve been very clear with waste officers that we need to monitor this carefully,” Cllr Carter said. “Clearly, we have a problem with people dropping things like bottles and cigarette ends late at night.
“We need to go in there on a daily basis to make sure that it is cleansed.”
Lisa McFadden lives nearby and often takes her two young daughters to the playground.
“There are times where I do feel quite vulnerable walking over there on my own, or with the children. I just assume something bad is going to happen, which is quite sad really.
“In the park, people are just free to do whatever they want, which is good, but unless you have got parents around, and I suppose the ones who are doing it are a bit old to have parents around.
Cardiff Council have been approached for comment.
