Eisteddfod plans have ‘not been thought through’

6 March 2018

People in Pontcanna have said Eisteddfod organisers have not considered the effects that the Welsh language festival will have on the local community.

The festival will take place from August 3-11 and camping will be hosted at Pontcanna Fields.

The fields next to Bute Park in Cardiff city centre could be out of action for almost a month.

People are worried the event will put too much pressure on parks that are already busy.

Edee Nacker runs a dog walking business and said the festival will cause her and other residents problems.

She said the festival will cause overcrowding of neighbouring parks.

“We’ll have to find alternative places to walk the dogs,” she added.

The last time the National Eisteddfod came to Cardiff in 2008 it drew over 150,000 visitors, but the celebration left Pontcanna Fields out of action for more than 2 years.

The Eisteddfod organisers have been contacted for comment.
